Meet Our Maker :: Natalie Ho
Welcome to the first Casa Verde Meet Our Maker issue. In this issue we will be sharing an interview we conducted with our in-house seamstress, Natalie. Natalie is the maker behind our line of African mud cloth pillows along with some other product lines that we are working on the for the near future.
Name: Natalie Ho
Area of Expertise: sewing + knitting
Question 1 :: Have you always been a maker?
Yes! My mom is super crafty and growing up my house was always a huge mess of fabric, yarn, clay, paints, and scraps of various projects. She taught me how to knit when I sprained my ankle at 8 years old and how to sew and use sewing patterns shortly after that. I really got into sewing in college when I got a job at JoAnn fabrics. I learned so much while working there.
Question 2 :: What inspires you?
I really love patterns and textures. Sometimes when I'm bored I cut pretty things out of magazines and glue them into my scrapbook. I also really like being resourceful. For instance I had some curtains and I really loved the pattern but when I moved and couldn't use them as curtains any more I cut them up and made a baby quilt for my friend! Fight disposable, mass produced, consumer culture with handmade love :)
Question 3 :: Are you creative in ways outside of your primary craft?
Actually I met Karli in college where we were both studying metalsmithing! Since graduating college and losing access to a metals studio I mostly knit and quilt but I also love painting with oils and watercolors.
Question 4 :: What new endeavor are you working toward?
I just graduated with my Masters of Social Work. The next goal is to get my clinical license to become a counselor working with people with disabilities.
Question 5 :: Where would you like to travel?
I really want to go to Spain, that's next on my list :)
